| CONCLUSION
- Dreamweaver has over the years become the defacto
standard application for web developers, and thus this is
a must have certification for web developers. Developers
can progress onto the other certifications offered under
the Macromedia label, but this is by far the most important
of those available. |

| STUDYING
- The ColdFusion MX 7 Developer Certification represents
a professional level of expertise and demonstrates the competency
of a ColdFusion MX 7 developer.
For intermediate to advanced ColdFusion
developers, The
Certified Macromedia ColdFusion MX Developer Study Guide
(34% discount)
serves one important purpose: To prepare developers to take
(and pass!) the test to become certified ColdFusion MX developers.
How, then, to explain the fact that more copies of the previous
edition have been sold than there are certified ColdFusion
developers?! Could it be that the coverage is so thorough,
the topics presented in such concise, clear terms that the
popular study guide has become the de facto desk reference
of choice for ColdFusion pros— regardless of whether
they plan to take the test?
Whatever the case, one thing is clear: If you need to get
certified in ColdFusion MX development, this is the place
to start. Written by ColdFusion product evangelist Ben Forta
with input from the team that developed the exam, the study
guide is organized as a series of tightly focused review
sessions that follow the same subject divisions as the test
itself.
Each chapter of this thoroughly revised
volume—including new chapters on application security,
XML, Web services, and Flash remoting—is short and
to the point with well-explained code examples. At the end
of each review section are tips and sample exam questions,
and a companion Web site rounds out the package. Best of
all, the book includes a coupon for the exam, so if you
take the test, the book is essentially free! Get this volume,
and get certified—it's as simple as that!
This is a very well-written study-guide.
It gets to the point without getting too wordy. It could
serve as a model for other study guides. But, I do have
a few minor gripes. First, some of the pages were printed
kind of blurry, a kind of shadow image. Second, there is
too much preaching about what the author feels are best
practices, some of which I question. Best practices questions
are not on the exam, at least the one I took, and thus should
be left out of a study guide except as perhaps small footnotes.
There were also a few minor typos, but being a niche market
I can forgive that for technical books.
