Microsoft announces new certifications centered around MS Office 2007 - Microsoft Business Certification.

The new certification tracks are at two levels -

The Microsoft Certified Application Specialist

This covers the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification Program (MOS) for Microsoft Office 2007 as well as the new Windows Vista operating system. The Application Specialist certification targets Information Workers and covers the key Microsoft Office applications such as Word 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Excel 2007, Access 2007 and Outlook 2007. So basically means an upgrade to the MOS certification.

Microsoft Certified Application Professional Series

The new Application Professional certification is designed to meet the needs of workers who use the 2007 Microsoft Office system to deliver on specific projects and tasks. This certification aims to demonstrate advanced, cross-industry skills and collaboration capabilities. The focus areas include managing budgets, managing presentations, managing team collaboration and supporting organisation's.

The exams are expected to be rolled out during the second half of 2007.

Microsoft is also developing Pre-Tests for the certifications for both tracks, which aim to provide a simple low low-cost way for individuals to determine their skill level. Pre-tests are to be taken online, making the first step toward certification easier and more convenient. After taking the pre-test, individuals will receive a custom learning path with recommended training to help candidates prepare for the certification exams.
